Keep the dream alive

Injustice

I wrote this on Monday, reflecting on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and that morning my friend sent me a reading that hit home in my heart.

It was a quote about dreams.

“Even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream.
~ Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

That line feels especially poignant right now in light of all the violence in the US right now with ICE.

All that has happened just doesn’t make sense to me, and sometimes our hearts can feel broken because of injustice.

Let’s be honest—there is a lot happening in this world that can easily pull us into fear, frustration, or hopelessness.

And when we’re standing in the middle of something hard—whether it’s global, personal, or somewhere in between—it’s easy to lose sight of the bigger picture.

The middle is not the end.

On a personal level, Paul and I are living squarely in the middle of a renovation.

Our basement is supposed to be finished in two weeks… and much has been done. Yet, it doesn’t even look halfway done.

Dust everywhere. Trim half on, half off. Lots of imagining what will be, and impatience to have it done.

Are you in the middle of something that sounds familiar?

I’m also nearing the end of my hypnotherapy training.

I’ve learned so much, and yet there are moments when I think, Why doesn’t this feel fully in my bones yet?

I now have the knowledge —but integration takes time.

I believe that’s the lesson.

Growth, change, and meaningful transformation almost always look messy before it reaches completion.

Dr. King didn’t just talk about the dream—he lived it. Step by step. Day by day. Even when progress felt slow.

Even when the outcome wasn’t guaranteed.

And Gandhi too, reminded us that we don’t wait for change we want to see in the world. We become it.

We don’t keep the dream alive by watching the news or wishing things were different.
We keep it alive by how we show up.
By how we treat others.
By how we lead.
By how we keep going when we’re tired, uncertain, or standing in the middle of the mess.

Resilience

If you’re feeling discouraged right now, I want you to hear this:

You don’t need to have it all figured out.
You don’t need to see the finished product yet.
You just need to stay connected to the why—the vision, the dream, the end you’re working toward.

The world doesn’t change all at once.
Basements don’t get finished overnight.
New skills don’t land instantly in our bones.

But they do come together—when we keep suiting up and showing up.

Let’s keep the dream alive.

And let’s be the change we want to see in the world.

I got to witness Paul receive his 41-year medallion, given to him by one of my sober sisters, on Sunday. 💜

I got to remember how it was in the beginning for us, and I’m truly amazed at where we are now. It’s a dream we’ve been manifesting for a lifetime. Sometimes it’s been messy, and we’ve conquered many peaks (and valleys).

The good news is, it’s not over yet! And we cherish the opportunity to live our best lives and make changes where we can.

The rest that we have no control over . . . well, we have to surrender and accept that this is where we are. And this too shall pass.

We’ll continue to stand up for injustice where we witness it.

Sending you all many blessings for health and happiness as you work for your dreams.

Love,
Maureen 🤍
