Don’t Waste Time!

What’s on your bucket list?

In meditation this morning I was asked to review my life in a flash. All my big moments flashed before my eyes. The highs and some of the lowest points too.

There’ve been many vacations and adventures. I’ve seen 3 out of 5 grandchildren born and now I’m watching them grow up and participating as much as I can.

In my advancing years, it seems like some of these past years have gone by like moments! Do you feel that time is speeding up?

Think about a time that you were looking forward to something and it felt like forever before the day arrived and now, how long ago was that?

I remember planning my wedding for 18 months and thought it would NEVER arrive. Well, that happened in 1988!

I planned a trip to Greece with my mom for well over a year. We met every month and reviewed travel books, went to Greek restaurants, and excitedly planned our trip. I could hardly wait!

I also remember being on that 2 week trip to Greece and about halfway through, it was 1:00 in the morning and I couldn’t sleep. You see there was a lively dinner party going on at the restaurant below my window and I got to thinking about home.

I felt like I was a world away from Paul and my 15-year-old daughter at the time. I missed them terribly!

Then the thought occurred to me that I would be with them soon enough and this was a trip of a lifetime. I decided not to waste another moment pining for home and somehow I drifted to sleep. That was in 2005!

My last example was the countdown of 1100 days until I retired from The Hartford. I had an app on my phone that counted the days for over 3 years. Well, that was 9 years ago now and so many more wonderful milestones have been achieved since starting my own business.

The point is, time will pass. Don’t waste your time counting down to some big event because it will come and go.

Enjoy the journey. Live in the moment as much as you can. But don’t stop dreaming and planning.

If you haven’t already, create a bucket list of all the things you want to do before you “kick the bucket.” It’s a worthwhile exercise to develop a plan of action for things to look forward to and create a lifetime of memories while you are living one day at a time.

Planning for any big event is half the fun.

Don’t waste your years, months, weeks, days, hours, or minutes. Time is precious and fleeting. Enjoy it to the max.

All my best,

Maureen

On the Emerge. Evolve. Lead. podcast this week . . .

I did a solo episode to share my 15 Leadership Lessons learned on the trip of a lifetime Paul and I took in 2017 across the country on a motorcycle. I’ve shared this list in a blog before but wanted to record it for posterity’s sake. So when my time is up, you can still glean the wisdom from what I learned on the Mother Road from Rally Master George Higgins.
