10 Things to Remember if This is a Challenging Time

Older and wiser doesn’t mean “done”

Have you ever decided to reread a book that you hadn’t read in a long time? You’ll pick up a whole new slew of things you didn’t get out of it the first time, I promise you.

I just started rereading a book by Dr. David Hawkins called the Eye of the I and it feels like I’m reading it for the first time! It’s a deep look at consciousness and how to tell the truth of things in the world. I feel deeply moved internally when I read it and more “awake” than ever. I’ve grown since I read it 8 years ago too.

Yet I’m also aware of fears I still harbor that surface from time to time. Like my need for certain things that make me feel a certain way. Because life is uncertain and I crave certainty.

However, I also crave uncertainty and want a some amount of variety too. I need adventure and excitement at times! I want to learn new things.

We can want and need both certainty and uncertainty. It’s a strange conundrum.

As we continue to grow and live life, we experience ebbs and flows, high points and low points. Our perceptions shift along way along with a shifting of our values, beliefs and attitudes about things. Because of our experiences in living life, we mature and become wiser.

So rereading a book or relistening to a podcast, brings, what seem like, a different or updated message.

I never used to do this. There are so many good books, movies and podcasts why would I want to relisten?

Well, because there are many hidden messages that will be revealed only to an older and wiser self. I challenge you to try this.

As I expand and grow, the lessons and messages I hear have changed. It’s quite fascinating to me.

When it comes to addressing fear, I notice that I seem to feel it the most when I let my thoughts start ruminating about the future. I feel a bit nervous that the things I’m working for, the outcomes, won’t go my way or that something bad might happen.

The antidote to this for me, is to look back at my experiences.

All of my challenges and the difficult times I went through had valuable lessons for me to learn, integrate and be grateful for. It gives me comfort that there is always a gift from the hard times.

10 Things to think about if you are going through a hard and challenging time . . .

  1. Step into your older wiser Self. What advice would you give your younger self?
  2. Self-acceptance is the key. Know that you are the wiser person now that your younger self always wanted to be.
  3. Live in the moment and be mindful of being right here, right now.
  4. Don’t try to figure everything out all the time. There are some things its better that you don’t know.
  5. Trust in the process of Life to unfold in the best way for you in perfect, Divine, right order.
  6. Make a list of the things you love in your life and dwell on gratitude for those things.
  7. Share your pain with someone you trust. Don’t hold on to it.
  8. Tell yourself the words you would say to a beloved if they were going through what you are.
  9. Pick up and reread something that inspired you in the past or watch an inspiring movie of triumph.
  10. And finally, let go of trying to control the outcome of your situation. Surrender. Surrender is actually freedom in disguise.

Love,

Maureen

P.S. I’m going to Block Island next week to hang out with Mom and a couple of my siblings, so no newsletter next week. I hope you’re having a fabulous (albeit hot) summer.

On the podcast this week . . .

I’m taking a couple of weeks off from Emerge. Evolve. Lead. and instead, I’ll turn you on to two other podcasts in which I was the guest speaker.

Trina Talks Podcast with Trina L. Martin

The first one is called Trina Talks and Trina is an excellent host. I shared a little bit about my story and then we got into talking about personalities at work and how you can know yourself better. There is always more to learn!

I interviewed Trina back in the fall. She had a career in the military and was a perfectionist who finally had to slow down and recognize that she was addicted to getting approval from outside sources. When she realized this, she began approving of herself and internally changed her own mindset. Click here to listen to that Emerge. Evolve. Lead. with Trina L. Martin, Episode #40.

Her Version with Sabrina Victoria

Here’s a recent talk I had with a wonderful podcast interviewer, Sabrina Victoria, on Her Version. I share a bit about my story and then we get into talking about leadership and personality types which was funny because we talked about her significant other and he was on the live broadcast watching, so of course he needed to chime in too! You can watch on YouTube or Listen on Spotify.

I also interviewed Sabrina on my Emerge. Evolve. Lead. podcast and you can listen to that episode here.
