The day I was a heart throb

It started out like any other normal working day but I had a secret. I was going to be a completely different person that day. I was taking on a new identity.

I was offered the opportunity to be Larry the Stag. Larry is the mascot of The Hartford Financial Services, Inc., a Fortune 200 company, where I spent much of my corporate career.

Have you ever dressed up in a large animal costume and walked around the halls of your work organization?

Maybe if you work for Disney, or the Yard Goats but rarely does one get to step into an icon. Literally. I was so excited!

It was a truly magical day walking down the halls at work and seeing so many employees, many whom I never even met, turn and run towards me delightedly to get their picture taken.

I never said a word and no one ever asked who was behind the neck of that beast.

I had a handler. Someone to make sure I didn’t bump into walls and also took pictures of me with many of my co-workers.

I got hugs, smiles, and giggles and many came from some very serious people.

I felt incredibly popular as Larry that day and it was so fun to spread joy and cheer during the holidays that season in 2008.

Remember to play and lighten up during this stressful time of the year. Do something fun to liven the mood at work. Play some games or take pictures with Santa. I don’t know, but remember to live in the moment and enjoy your colleagues because life is too short to not be having a good time at work if you can.

All my best to you during the last 9 days of the year. I’ll be taking next week off from writing a newsletter, so enjoy your time with family, friends and colleagues and I’ll see you in the new year.

Be a heart throb,

Maureen
