Be an excellent role model

Good leadership of others begins with self-leadership, wouldn’t you agree?

No one wants to follow a leader who doesn’t practice what they preach.

Did you have a parent who told you not to smoke or drink but they were smoking and drinking freely?

The best way to teach your children to take care of themselves is to take care of yourself.

The best way to teach your employees how to set boundaries is to set boundaries and expectations of yourself to show them how it is done.

This means not overworking yourself, taking your vacation time, consistently showing up, keeping your commitments and following through to do what you say you’ll do.

I know you know this but it’s good to have a reminder.

I encourage you to be an excellent role model for those you lead by taking care of your body, as well as your mental, emotional and spiritual health.

Learn how to prioritize your self-care as the most important thing in your life. It’s not selfish, it’s life saving.

If you don’t have your health, you can’t lead/live very well. You cannot be there for colleagues, your family, or your relationships.

If you are on the track to burnout, take some time off and don’t feel guilty about it.

Do what you need to do to fuel your body, feed your soul and warm your heart.

Not only will you be an excellent role model for your peeps, you’ll feel good so you can better enjoy life. Even when the sh!t hits the fan. When you are well rested, fed right, and exercise your body daily, it releases the right chemicals and endorphins so your moods are not erratic and you can be in better control of your reactions.

Don’t know where to start? I beg to disagree. You do know.

If it feels overwhelming, just take one healthy step that you know you can take to make yourself feel better.

Have a great week!

Love,

Maureen
