Let’s uncover the truth
A very large, dead branch fell from a tree a few weeks back and crashed down onto the front side panel of my car. It created dents in several places and cracked my windshield.
I called in an insurance claim and brought it to an auto body place near me. I was amazed to see how high the estimate was for a windshield replacement and a few smallish dents.
Anyhoo, I went forward with getting all the work done and picked up my car.
When I got into the car the next morning, I immediately realized my phone charger cord was missing and couldn’t “plug-in” to my dashboard.
This is how I listen to music, talk or text hands free and use the GPS.
I scooted over to the auto-body shop to get it and they couldn’t find it anywhere. Whaaaaat?
I immediately I jumped to the conclusion that someone had taken it.
The owner, however, assured me that there was no thief working for him. He said the person who cleaned the car had just left for the day and asked if I would kindly call back in the morning.
I did. He said the cord was there.
Apparently it got sucked into the vacuum when they were cleaning the car and it was discovered and removed immediately but was hung up on the wall instead of put back in the car after the cleaning.
I felt an honest relief that there wasn’t a thief there. I was happy the owner was right.
I’ve been a thief. Before. Long ago in my past. Yup. It makes me super uncomfortable to even think about it now but its the truth.
I’ve also been untrue to myself and lied to others.
I cleaned up my act a long time ago and now I’m honest and trust worthy. But I’d be lying if I told you that being honest with myself has been a walk in the park.
I still struggle with it sometimes because I’m such a positive thinker and I WANT to believe the best in myself and others.
Sometimes I trust others when I should not. But if you want something really bad and a snake oil salesman tells you that they have a fix for you, it’s just human nature to want to believe it.
Later I think “I should have known.” But I didn’t want to “know” because I was lying to myself and not listening to my inner wisdom.
Does this ever happen to you?
Learning to balance what the heart wants and what the head wants can be a challenge.
What I think I want doesn’t always make logical sense. Or it makes logical sense but doesn’t feel right.
Having the courage to follow my intuition, especially when that choice doesn’t seem logical, can be really hard.
This is why, for me, it’s so important to not only take a daily inventory and set boundaries for decision-making, but I also need to discuss my challenges with a trusted advisor.
That advisor could be my husband, my mom, or a friend, but sometimes I go to a professional, like a coach. Because sometimes getting advice from someone who is not emotionally involved with you is a good thing.
And coming from the other perspective, as a coach myself, it’s always easier for me to see clearly that which might be a blind spot for clients. I have strong intuitive hits when I have my coaching hat on.
However, when it comes to listening to my own inner wisdom for me, it’s seems to be much harder because that darn brain or logic gets in the way.
I’m currently in a support group of high powered women in business so that I can bounce things off of them and my coach. It helps so much!
If you are looking for a coach for yourself to help you get out of your own way, be honest with yourself and get some help. I’m here for you. Book a call with me to see if we might be the right fit for each other.
All my best,
Maureen
