A Closer Look At September

New moon means updating your goals

My brother-in-law Chuck came to visit us for Christmas last year. He’s been living in Paris for going on 15 years and spent 10 years in Germany before that. He’s a wealth of information and I always learn from him.

He bought me several gifts for Christmas and one of them I’ve been using every day. It’s the 2022 Moonology Diary by Yasmin Boland.

I’ve never really studied Astrology but my sign is the Moon Child (Cancer) and I’ve always felt affected by the full moon. I love the moon! It’s been my experience that some moons have a “giving energy” and some moons are “taking” and can feel draining for me.

The moon had always been a bit of a mystery for me but now, by reading this diary every week, I’ve learned so much!

I am now setting my goals each month at the time of the new moon (dark moon) and when the full moon hits I’ve been instructed to let go and release.

I’m finding it fun to see how my goals manifest. Then when the full moon comes around it’s good practice to surrender and release my expectations. This is when I practice forgiveness if I’ve been holding onto any resentments that recently occurred.

I’d like to challenge you to set a new goal for yourself this month since the new moon takes place today, August 25th, to see if it works for you too.

New Moon Wishes Exercise

  1. Write out your current biggest goal, wish or intention on the new moon
  2. Turn it into an affirmation and write it as if it’s already happened
  3. Commit to reciting this affirmation, with conviction, multiple times a day for the next month

Here is an excerpt from the diary for September that gives an overview of what you can expect:

When you look at the astrology for September 2022, it seems quite innocuous. There are no eclipses, no big outer-planet sign changes, and no big clashes. What you get this month is more or less endless ease. That might sound a bit hard to believe, but the fact is the astrology for September is really rather pleasant. So the best thing we can all do is take it easy. Cruise.
On September 10, Mercury retrograde begins. This is a time when you want to review your life rather than pressing forwards with new plans. Remember that the most intense parts of any retrograde are the start and the end of the cycle, so wait a week or so after the cycle ends on October 2 to do things such as confirming travel plans, or buying a new car, a new computer or a new phone. In the meantime, while Mercury is retrograde, don’t be surprised if you fall out with someone, an email goes astray, or you experience disruptions to technology, communication, and travel plans.

Pretty cool huh? Taking life as it comes is far easier than trying to force or make things happen. If you have some resistance to what is going on in your life and you’d like to begin to change those things. Start with acceptance. What you resist will persist. Not sure who first said that but it’s a good thing to remember.

On the podcast this week . . .

My podcast guest today is Nikole Thompson. Nikole has been sober since 2006 and is in recovery from methamphetamine and porn addiction. She is also an author of a book called 50 Shades of Truth, a mother of 9 children and 12 grandchildren, and a Celebrate Recovery Director.

Nikole and I talked about the struggles of growing into adulthood with no clear role models and the wasted effort of trying to change others. We can only change ourselves at the end of the day. However, we can be role models for others and inspire and motivate by telling the truth and living up to our highest potential. Nikole is that person. Listen to her amazing story now. Check out the show notes for links to her book.
