One of my favorite movies of all times was Dead Poets Society with Robin Williams. I learned many things from that movie including what carpe diem meant.
For years I used that sentiment at the bottom of my email signature and I felt in many ways, like I’ve lived my life like that.
I often seize the day. I can and do live in the moment.
Sometimes, when I get stuck thinking too much about the future, something will remind me of how time flies. For example, I can’t believe it, but we are celebrating our child’s 32nd birthday this Sunday. That really blows my mind. They are now parenting four little ones of their own!
Is it just me or does time seem to go faster the older we get?
There is no time to waste!
Do the things you love to do.
Live up to your full potential.
Move on from toxic relationships.
Start checking off and prioritizing the things on your bucket list.
Haven’t made a list yet of all the things you want to experience in your life? Well get going!
Smell the flowers. Hug your people. Let go of grievances. Live and let live.
Life is too short to live being cranky or living someone else’s idea of what they want you to be.
Own your strengths and find your passion. Do that for a living or a start a serious side hobby.
Begin creating the legacy you want people to think of when you’re gone.
People regret more what they didn’t do, than what they did do in life. Live with no regrets.
Just a reminder folks, that we don’t last forever and YOU are in control of your journey in life.
Robin Williams made me laugh and I enjoyed so many of his movies like Mrs. Doubtfire, Jumanji and Hook. There were others that make me cry and really think, like Good Will Hunting, Patch Adams and The Fisher King. All movies I highly recommend.
But when he died, it was The Dead Poet’s Society that I watched to help me grieve. I think he is the only famous person I ever deeply cried for because it felt like a personal loss. I miss him being in the world.
Thinking about his life is a reminder to me to take care of my mental health, treasure my sobriety and help as many others as I can in this life while I am living it to the fullest. So, carpe diem my friends!
