The heart stands for so many things these days. It’s not just a beating organ keeping our bodies alive although that is it’s primary function! So treat your physical heart with kindness and exercise it to keep that blood flowing.
The heart is also our symbol for love. Love in all its many forms. I think of Valentine’s Day as a reminder to love our sweethearts, our children, our friends and at the top of the list, ourselves.
The heart also represents the yearning of our soul. So when I say “know your heart,” I’m suggesting you get in touch with what your soul wants and needs. What fills you up? What brings you joy? What are you being “called” to do with your one precious life? What does your heart want?
To create a better life, you must know what it is that you want. What would a better life look like? Sometimes we don’t always know. Be we start by knowing what we don’t want.
I’ve heard potential clients say: “I don’t really know what I want but I can’t do what I’m doing anymore.”
We get tired of the work that we do and the people we do it with and we want change.
Truth bomb: You create your own reality by thinking, feeling and putting out vibrations. This is why they say “Be careful what you pray for, you just might get it.” And “You can’t keep playing the same game and expecting different results.”
So if you think a geographical move is the cure for what ails you, beware that nothing will change if you do not make internal shifts in your state of mind and in your heart regarding how you feel and see the world.
This is why you may recognize patterns in your life of attracting the same type of boss or the same type of love relationship. Do you keep getting hurt? Do you keep getting passed over for a promotion?
Here’s the first step to changing and creating a life that fills your heart and soul to the max:
- Think about your options and decide what it is you want.
- Then begin to make internal shifts in your thinking and implant new beliefs. (This takes time.)
- Step into the feelings of what you will feel when you actually have what you want.
If you don’t know where you are going or what you want, then you will experience more swirling and confusion in your life. Getting clear is key.
That may sound like a little magical and woo woo but it really works. And it’s something you have control over and can do something about. We can’t change other people, we can only change ourselves. And when we do that, everything changes. I’ve seen it happen in recovering addicts a thousand times.
Do the following exercise if you are not clear on what you want in your next career move.
4 Steps to Begin Creating Your Next Best Career Move:
- Write a list of all the best assignments/accomplishments you’ve experienced at work. Which tasks or projects did you like the best or had the greatest levels of satisfaction upon completion.
- To help you do step #1, review your resume and think about each of the jobs you’ve held and decide what were the most fun parts of each of those jobs?
- Create that list of accomplishments and write out a job description of the perfect job for you. (Don’t skip this step!)
- When you get a clear vision of this perfect job, take a few minutes to visualize what it would feel like to have a job like that.
- Review this vision periodically and ask The Universe to provide opportunities and open doors.

On the podcast today . . .
My guest this week, is Sarah Laurel. When Sarah got clean she knew that she needed to fix a housing problem she had in her life. It took some negotiation but she began to take steps toward creating a sober home for herself and her recovering friends. Sarah is now the CEO and Founder of the Savage Sisters which runs 6 recovery homes for women in Pennsylvania!
After 28 rehabs, Sarah was not yet in recovery when she was thrown out of a window and broke her leg and hip. She was wearing a dress at the time, that had the word Savage on it, which they had to cut off her body. After Sarah awoke from a coma in the hospital, she was determined to step fully into recovery and she looked up the word “savage” that kept popping into her brain. One of the descriptor words in the dictionary was ferocious. It had deep meaning for her.
Sarah decided to be ferocious about chasing her recovery in the same way she had chased drugs and alcohol, hence the Savage Sisters organization was born. This became a 501c organization that helps homeless women with a place to live as they begin their healing journey.
Sarah has amazing wisdom because of her own struggles and I encourage you to listen in to this episode “From Homeless to Activist.”
All my best,
Maureen
