You are a miracle.
We’re on vacation this week in Saint Augustine, Florida to celebrate Paul’s birthday and sober anniversary. Yay! I love celebrations.
At times when I reflect on all that life has to offer us, I am amazed at the incredible opportunities we have to live in happiness.
I mean less than 100 years ago we could NOT get 2000 miles away in a mere 4 hours on a plane. And how about the fact that when we left it was 5 degrees Fahrenheit and when we landed it was 65 degrees! And my mind is always blown when I think we did that travel in a 75 ton flying hunk of metal! Amazing!
Our bodies and brains are amazing too. Look at all the systems that function for us without having to think about it.
We never realize how much we take swallowing for granted until we get a sore throat, right? Being conscious of living IN my body is a practice and I want it to remain healthy so I try to keep it moving and exercise daily so I never take it for granted.
I think sometimes, that we spend time complaining about our bodies instead of thanking them. Has this occurred to you?
Instead of just being grateful for my bed at night, I take a moment to thank my feet for carrying me all day and for handling all of the normal functions of biology that happens without my conscious help.
I’m grateful to be a happy and healthy human being and that I don’t have any disabilities.
Yet I do still complain about aches and pains at times. I think about how I want my body to be different. When I become aware of this I stop myself and try to get into gratitude again because those negative thoughts do not change anything nor do they make me happy.
When I accept myself I’m happier. So I practice acceptance.
When my body is happy and working well, my brain can function smoothly and I can love more and help more people.
This body is a miracle. Your body is a miracle. Even with all its imperfections.
I’ll also remind you that you are not just your body but you are a spiritual being inhabiting your body.
The benefits of loving and accepting your body no matter your size is so important to live a full and happy life. You are a unique and incredible human being having overcome so much in your life up until now.
On my podcast today we talk about body acceptance with my guest Tara Whitney, author of Hungry: Trust Your Body and Free Your Mind around Food.
Don’t let past conditioning and diet culture sway you into thinking you should be something different. These are conditioned thoughts and beliefs which can be changed (read that quote above again).
I’m not going to worry about calories while I’m on vacation.
If you struggle with body acceptance, don’t wait. Listen to the podcast now and book time with me to get help if you need it. Never forget that you are a miracle and a co-creator of your life.
Have fun with it!
Please write back and tell me, what is your favorite vacation food and favorite vacation place?
All my best,
Maureen
