A Time For Healing

I was looking at my arm the other day. The part of my left arm between the elbow and my wrist. The part that leans on the table when you’re eating or doing a puzzle.

I noticed a long white line. A scar was there. I wracked my brain and I couldn’t remember when I got it. I have a scar on my right knee and I remember getting that when I was about 8 years old and fell when I was running on pavement. We were probably playing tag or something.

I have other scars on my body. I have a few on my left shoulder from surgery to remove a bone spur. I have 5 small scars on my belly from a UPJ obstruction which they fixed with lasers. It’s really amazing what they can do now. And I also have a scar on my wrist from a roller blading accident surgery.

Every time we go into the hospital for any type of procedure they ask about medications and surgeries so I know them all by heart. I’m sure you do too.

But this arm scar, I just don’t remember. It’s about 3 inches long. Jeez.

About 15 years ago I became a Reiki Healer. I went on to get my Masters in Reiki and have taught a couple dozen others over the years. Not many people know that about me. It’s one of the ways I was able to develop my intuitive capabilities.

I also studied other healing modalities because I believe that there is much more to heal than the skin, bones and organs of our bodies.

When we have trauma in our emotional psyche, if it remains unhealed, it will still find its way into our body as dis-ease or a feeling of anxiety or depression.

There are many ways that we can heal and a good way to start is by not keeping secrets. Talking about what you might be hiding is a perfect place to begin.

But of course, making sure you choose someone you can trust and someone who you can be sure won’t take advantage of your vulnerability is a must for proper healing to occur. A friend is good but a coach or therapist might be better because we have expertise in helping to heal trauma stuck in the body.

Paul and I are reading “My Grandmother’s Hands: Racialized Trauma and the Pathway to Mending Our Hearts and Bodies” by Resmaa Menakem. He explains the truth behind the research that trauma from our ancestors can be passed down from generation to generation.

I’m learning so much about pain from trauma and the energy it carries. There is clean pain and there is dirty pain. We all have it to some degree and there is an ongoing process of feeling and healing it and trying not to pick it up from other’s along the way. Being an empath, this is easier said than done but I’ve gotten better at it over the years.

I think part of the reason I stayed at my corporate job so long is because it was a place where I could stay in my head and out of my heart because it is so easy for me to feel the suffering of others. I found I was still feeling with my heart much of the time because that’s just who I am. So I found others like me and had a great career.

In the podcast today, I’m interviewing Nancy Lindgren, a healer and an officiant, who helps others heal trauma in their bodies, hearts and minds. I love and value this vocation of Healer. Listen to the podcast to find out more about Nancy and her work.

Some of us have external scars, but some of the deepest scars are internal so we cannot see them with the eye.

Our scars are reminders of how strong and resilient we are. You know that saying “What doesn’t kill ya makes you stronger?” Truth.

But just remember, it weakens you if you stuff it and hide it away. I say, talk about your traumas and look at the lessons it may have brought you. That’s an example of healing clean pain.

Oh, and look for the gift.  There is always a gift. And when you find the gift, the healing is complete. Nothing left but a scar to remind you of how strong and resilient you are. Even you don’t even remember where you got it.

All my best,
Maureen

P.S. I have 1 opening in my coaching program. If you are ready to step up in your career and create your best most abundant life, let’s talk about what it would look like to work together on that. One of my clients just landed a super exciting offer that will up level everything! And other client said this at our most recent meeting: “I have spent a lot of money in therapy and no one has EVER hit it exactly right and touched my heart and brain in a way that made total sense to me the way you just did. It touched me deeply. Thank you.”
