How are you feeling about the future right now? Hope or despair? Something in between?
When facing the future in our families, communities and business, the MOST important thing to have besides hope, is a positive mindset of what is possible for you.
What you think will determine almost everything in your life. Having a negative belief that the future will suck, or never be the same, or will be worse, is giving up your power and deciding how you will react when, or if, life doesn’t unfold in your favor. Are you walking around with a sense of doom? Then it’s time to change it up!
Deciding to take control of your thoughts means taking your power back. This is one thing you can change and no one can change it for you. Your attitude and your belief about what is possible for you is totally within your control. Don’t let thoughts of uncertainty cloud your vision.
What you think and focus on in your daily thoughts is the key to a positive future. Period. Seriously. We call this the inner “story.” What story are you telling yourself and others?
Our story (thoughts and beliefs) determine how we feel about things. Many people think it’s the other way around but it’s not. And then it’s our feelings or emotions which often determine our behavior and course of action (or inaction). We all know how fear can stop us from moving forward. Excuses are fears in disguise.
However, we cannot simply change our thoughts and our beliefs. It’s also necessary to feel the emotions we’ve been stuffing down since forever (for some of us). The pandemic and systemic racism problem (not to mention political tension) has been a catalyst for forcing some of those old, hidden, emotions and fears to rise to the surface in our hearts and in our minds. We’re all experiencing this right now.
We CAN create a better world, a better business and a better life, IF we are willing to go look at what triggers you. There is inner work that’s necessary to clear out the pain. It’s time to explore who we are. What have we not been facing or feeling? What are your excuses? What do you do to escape?
When talking about escape, I’m talking about unhealthy ways to stuff our emotions. How do you stuff it back down? Eating? Mood altering substances? Sugar? Gaming? Sex? Shopping? Or do you just let it out as anger or frustration? What are you doing to vent appropriately?
This self reflection is deeply important to creating a purposeful future for yourself, your family and all those you come in contact with (even if it’s just on zoom!).
World peace starts with inner peace. It’s an old saying but it’s true!
And it’s contagious too. We’ve seen hope spread! We’ve seen so much inspiration and love rising up. What the young people (and people of all ages) are doing around the country to stand up for what they believe is has been amazing and inspiring. These are the news stories to dwell on. Are you dealing out hope? I am!
