You Are The Solution

You Are The Solution

Most people don’t think of themselves as leaders unless they have people reporting directly to them at work. This couldn’t be further from the truth.

Here are a few of my favorite attributes you can use to grow your inner leader in your own life to lead your: self, family, work team, peer groups and community.

  1. Know that you are the solution to all your problems. There may be obstacles in your way at certain times in life but finding blame outside yourself is playing small. You are the one person you can change. You can try to change others but it usually doesn’t work without a lot of manipulation. However, you CAN be an inspirational positive influence. You can grow your abilities, change your mind, build your character, educate yourself and increase your capacity by stretching in every way. You can decide who you want to be and go about being that person. You are the solution to getting what you want in life.
  2. Consistently persist. Forget about trying to manage results. Instead work on managing activities that lead to results. For example, if you want to be an expert in anything then you need to practice a little bit every day. Keep focusing on what you want and just be consistent and don’t give up. Your expertise will build. This is the way to lose weight, become a speaker, create a business, get a degree, or raise a child! One activity at a time and keep doing it.
  3. Hang with the winners. Surround yourself with people who believe in you. Find a mentor and be a mentor. When you need help, ask for it. If someone else needs help, give it. You are not alone and if you hang with people who are also leaders in their lives then you will make it twice as far in half the time. Stretch out of your comfort zone and reach for more.
  4. Passion and vision are crucial. Restate your vision constantly whether it’s with your family, your team at work, or with your friends. Andy Stanley wrote a book called Visioneering, and he says you have to discuss the vision of an organization 21 times before people start to hear it. My guess is it would be less amongst your family and friends. But do it!  The winners you surround yourself with will help you hold that vision. And find a vision for which you have passion. Even if you are not passionate about anything now try enthusiasm. Having enthusiasm can help lead you to your purpose or calling in life. It’s much easier to be persistent with your goals when you are enthusiastic about something than when you are not.
  5. Decisions are liberating. Indecisiveness creates a nightmare. Don’t let yourself get too bogged down in analysis. Listen to your intuition, your gut and make decisions. It’s your feelings that are the best indicator of which direction to go. If you make a mistake just correct your course. No big deal! Of course look at the risks involved. You don’t want to put all your eggs in one basket and then decide to bet on the entire lot. George S. Patton said it well when he said, “A good plan, violently executed now, is better than a perfect plan next week.” NOW is the time. Just be authentic and make decisions from that place.

You are the leader of your life and by stepping up and challenging yourself to get to the next level you can make the world a better place. Keep being a powerful example of a great leader for your children, your friends, and your colleagues at work. By doing so you will elevate and grow not just yourself but all those in your life.

Nothing worth working for ever comes easily, but with persistence and passion you can achieve anything you want and feel good in the process.
