How Aware Are You?
Most people think they are pretty aware of what they are thinking, doing, and how they are behaving. But the truth is there are many things you do that you may not be aware you are doing.
An easy example we can all relate to is breathing or blinking. There are many physical things that happen in our bodies that we are not the least bit aware of. You never realize how much you swallow until you have a sore throat, right?
And have you ever experienced that strange occurrence of driving somewhere and being so focused on thinking about something other than driving that you weren’t aware of where you were until you got there? This is called “unconscious competence.”
These are strange and amazing ways that our neural pathways in our brain can run our bodies and our lives. Many times I’ve heard that 95% of our actions are run by our subconscious scripts which were imprinted in us while we were children.
Why
It is important that we become more aware of our thoughts and what we are thinking if you want to make lasting changes in your life.
If you spend too much time thinking of what is wrong in your life then you are thinking of things you don’t want. You’ll need to change those thoughts or you’ll just get more of what you don’t want. That is the law of attraction working.
In order to change our lives in any way we must first change our thoughts, not just our behavior. Because if you just change something on the outside and don’t reprogram your thoughts then you may still attract all the same situations which cause us to feel that nothing has really changed.
For example we may change where we work but keep attracting the same domineering type of boss. Or perhaps change a relationships but when you find someone new the same issue comes up. This is when you need to raise your level of awareness in order to get control of your life so you can create a life that makes your heart sing.
The 7 Levels of Awareness
- Animal
- Mass
- Aspiration
- Individual
- Discipline
- Experience
- Mastery
1. A person who has only animal awareness may only be aware when they are hungry, tired or afraid. They go through the day and just do what they need to do to survive and are unable to create any real happiness or meaning in their life.
2. Those who live in mass consciousness may be a little more aware than the animal but will follow along with what everyone else is doing or do what they think they “should” be doing. They often worry about what others will think of them and they don’t really branch out to do what they want to do. Instead, they may suffer their life in silent desperation. They don’t feel they can make changes without hurting others and instead stay stuck and accept their circumstances as fate.
This is the level of awareness that the vast majority of people stay in for most of their lives. There may be a few times in life when big decisions are made or some great thing is accomplished, like a graduation or a wedding, but then life goes back to humdrum and nothing much else changes.
3. If you have aspirations and an urge to move away from the mass mentality to do your own thing, it takes courage, persistence and willingness. It’s a difficult thing to break away from mass consciousness but there are those who do.
4. If you do then you’ll find that you are an individual who is following your heart. You aspire to improve yourself beyond just self interest but to help others in the world. Those who get to this level can rapidly raise their awareness further and begin to feel the joy and freedom that we are meant to truly feel in this world. Now you are on your way to creating an amazing life full of new and varied experiences.
5. Next it’s time to move into the discipline level of awareness which is key to making a full break.
6. It is with discipline that you gain experience.
7. It is experience that will give you mastery and then the world is your oyster as they say.
When you practice the discipline of working towards your goals, facing your fears and moving through them, the Universe will begin to help you manifest a new amazing life and your vision becomes a reality. One way you can help that vision come to light quicker is to write out, in vivid details, a clear picture of what you’d like your life to be like, say, 3 years from now then become a master.
Take action now! Write a little story of where you want to be in regards to your relationships, family, career, business, finances, and don’t forget where you want to be emotionally and spiritually as well.
Do you want to be living in the same place? With the same people in your household? In the same job? In the same financial situation?
Build your dream by creating a new and improved version of the best life you can envision. What do you desire?
Then be aware of your thoughts. Ask yourself, where is my current level of awareness? Where would I like it to be?
